Catullo’s Caves

The Catullo’s Caves are located in Sirmione, but don’t be fooled: they are not caves and Catullo has never visited them.

What are they then? It is an archaeological area containing the remains of the most imposing private residence in northern Italy, surrounded by a centuries-old olive grove full of history. 

Inside the area that extends for 2 hectares, there is also a small archaeological museum that is worth a visit.

The name was coined during the Renaissance and derives from the fact that the rooms of the house that had collapsed reminded of the caves, while the quote of Catullo is linked to his love for Sirmione.

This sumptuous villa seems to date back to the last decades of the first century BC or perhaps the beginning of the first century AD and was then abandoned, later becoming a necropolis and finally a fortified belt to defend the city.
The location of the archaeological site is extraordinary. Sirmione is in fact a land tongue that creeps into the water of Garda and the Caves of Catullo represent the extreme tip, from which you can admire the lake from a privileged view.
If you like slow walks in the midst of history, you should definitely go there, also to admire the pretty town of Sirmione and its Scaliger Castle.

Ponale Road

This is a cycle/pedestrian path that runs along the north-western part of the lake and connects Riva del Garda with Lake Ledro, but can also reach the small village of Pregasina.

If you love nature and like to contemplate its beauty, this trail will give you great emotions.

You’ll pass through tunnels carved into the rock and climb up to admire the view from the above, with an overhanging view of the water that can repay any effort.
If you plan to do the route by bike, we recommend that you use an e-bike, because some stretches could be a bit challenging, especially the final climb where you have to go through the woods. 

Garda Isle

In front of San Felice del Benaco is the Garda Isle, from which you can admire the lake from a new perspective.

The Cavazza family, who offer the possibility of a guided tour to discover the park and the villa, owns the island.

To convince you to go and discover it, it would be enough to show you some photos of the 19th-century Venetian neo-Gothic villa, as well as the lush gardens and the magnificent centuries-old park with plants from all over the world.

To all this beauty, however, is also added the charm of history, because from here passed St. Francis of Assisi, St.Anthony of Padua and Dante Alighieri and if that were not enough, this strip of land has also become the refuge of pirates, monks and soldiers of the Savoy army.

The Vittoriale

It is located in Gardone Riviera and was the last house where Gabriele d’Annunzio lived.

Calling it a house is an understatement, however, as it is a vast property containing an amphitheatre, a mausoleum and even a ship, set within the park.

And then there is the Prioria, the house-museum that has become a symbol of its originality, mixing unusual rooms, dim lighting, overflowing decorations and several thousand books and objects of all kinds.

Forget the museums you’ve already seen, because here you enter the extraordinary, where the villa and its park become a stage on which D’Annunzio exhibited his quirks and extravagances for a long time, and which can now be visited as an everlasting reminder of the poet’s flair and singular personality.

Gardaland

Next to Peschiera del Garda there is the most famous amusement park in Italy: Gardaland.
This is the kingdom of families, where children and teens can enjoy the park’s attractions, visit the Sea Life aquarium and cool off in Legoland Water Park, where you can have fun on slides, pools and water games.

This year’s new attraction is Jumanji, an adventurous journey full of danger where you ride your off-road vehicle into a wild world in search of a precious gem.

Gardaland is only 2 km from us and you can reach it very easily by car or with the free shuttle bus that passes near our hotel.
